ABOUT US

St. Mary’s Soccer (SMS) is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that is affiliated with the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA) and St. Mary’s County Department of Recreation and Parks that offers recreational and competitive levels of soccer for children in St. Mary's County, Maryland.

Our Goal

To provide every youth player an opportunity to play soccer, regardless of skill level, and to help them find the right level of play through our Recreation, Recreation Plus (RecPlus), or Travel programs.

 

Our Mission

 

We are committed to developing players and impacting lives, through positive, fun and challenging soccer. Our focus is on the players and their families and helping them reach their goals. Every day, every practice and every game, we will ask ourselves, "Are we challenging our players proportionately? Are we inspiring and developing them not just as talented athletes but also as young adults? Most importantly, are we doing it in a way that they are having fun and still love the game?"  We will meet our players where they are and help them grow to the level they want to grow.  Our interest is more in the number of players we develop than the number of games we win. By focusing on development first, the wins will come on their own, both on and off the pitch.  This is how we measure success.

 

LEADERSHIP

The Board of Directors is responsible for the overall operation of SMS and consists of both elected/voting members (officers) and appointed/non-voting members.  There are 7 Elected/Voting Board Members who comprise the Executive Board.  Members are elected by the general membership at a general meeting held at the end of the Spring season.  The 2025-2026 Board is as follows:

In addition to our all-volunteer Board of Directors, SMS has professional staff overseeing day-to-day club operations and player development.

• Director of Operations – Ashley Walter

  • Ashley Walter has been an active volunteer with St. Mary’s Soccer for many years, supporting multiple teams across premier and classic levels. She plays a central role in team operations, including scheduling, registration, tournament coordination, and communication with coaches and families. Ashley manages game day logistics, attendance tracking, and player safety, and leads club wide tournaments such as Community Cup and Claire’s Cup. She is deeply committed to the St. Mary’s Soccer community and takes pride in creating a welcoming, organized, and positive environment for players, families, and volunteers.

• Director of Communications- Aaron Koch
  •  Aaron has been a coach with St. Mary's Soccer since 2012. Within the recreation program, he has filled several division manager roles, been the Vice President of Recreation for nearly three years, and the Vice President of Kiddie Kick/Academies for nearly seven years. He has over 20 years of experience in language arts fields, including more than a decade as a writer and editor for a major publishing company. His commitment to our club will make him an ideal Director of Communications! 
• Director of Coaching - Dr. Sheri Huckleberry
  • Sheri has experience as the Director of Coaching with Liverpool Football Club International Academy in western Maryland and brings over 20 years of coaching educator experience from Ohio University, Ball State University and as a coaching educator with MSYSA and KYSA.

• Director of Technical Development Academy - Amy King
  • Amy is a southern Maryland native having graduated from Leonardtown HS.  She has previously served as the VP of Travel with St. Mary's Soccer and brings  25 years of experience coaching all level of the game.

• Director of Technical Development Youth - Jereme Raley
  • Jereme is a southern Maryland native graduating from St. Mary's Ryken in 2009.  He then went on to play NCAA Div 1 at the University of Maryland wining 3 ACC Championships, and a Big Ten championship.  His professional playing experiences included time with the Baltimore Blast, Pittsburg Riverhounds, St. Louis Ambush, and the Harrisburg Heat.  He as also served as a collegiate assistant coach with with Mount St. Mary's University and St. Mary's College of Maryland.
